Mobile phones are perpetually evolving and play a large part in many of our daily lives. Every time a new phone is released, they come equipped with more and more features to make then even more desirable and perhaps indispensible. Even now, many phones come with sat-nav software and GPS/GPRS connections to connect to satellites or pseudolites.
The next big thing that’s tipped to take the world by storm is the integration of high definition technology into our mobile phones. This will give us the ability to play back or stream high def audio/video through our phones allowing us to not only, watch movies on the move but even better, watch them in superior quality.
Of course, a mobile phone that utilises high def will need high definition multimedia interface support for it to be connected to other electronic items. One thing to be remembered is that both the high def decoding module and the HDMI itself will have to be redesigned and updated to fit within the constraints that come with mobile technology such as size.
At present the standard HDMI connector is too large for mobile use so again, will need to be worked around, perhaps giving rise to a smaller version like mini USB did to USB. HDMI cables therefore will need to be developed also to fit in with this technology. However, the humble HDMI cable will be the preferred method of connection further cementing the HDMI slogan of one cable, one standard.
Connectivity is an issue for most phones but will become increasingly so with the advent of models supporting HDMI. Moving large audio/video files, jpeg photos, and other files from device to device that once was not thought to be likely, is now made possible, and in fact, much easier using HDMI cables. These cables will be used to transmit the digital audio/visual data from one mobile device to another HDMI supported appliance.
The mobile phone churn rate is huge with new versions continually being developed. HDMI phones will, as with every other phone be honed and developed as public interest grows. No longer will people need to have separate movie or music players when they will be able to enjoy high definition sound and video through their mobile phone. If HDMI cables are one cable, one standard then HDMI mobiles phones are one phone that can cope with multiple digital sources. |
