Whoever you are, there are probably several men in your life who you have to buy gifts for at various times of the year. It can be hard to be original, thoughtful and generous throughout the seasons because you soon realise you're going to re-tread old ground and get your father, brother or friend something you got them for Christmas earlier in the year or even something you bought them several years ago!
Making your friends, family members or your partner crack a great big smile is the point of gift giving. Keep that in mind and you can't really go wrong. However, depending on whom it is you're buying gifts for you're probably going to need to send a different message.
So, in this article we'll take a look at some of the people you might be buying gifts for and give you a few hints and tips on making their day extra special.
Dad
He is a strong male character, your dad. He's also a bit annoying sometimes! Don't worry. All fathers are. Gifts for Him should be funny and heart-warming. It's also great if they're useful. If he works in an office consider getting him something to store his pens in, or a mug for him to drink his coffee from.
The great thing about buying presents for parents is that they tend to love whatever you get them, but the more personal the message you send, the better. If he likes dressing up and seems to go to plenty of formal parties why not get him some thoughtful cufflinks. The options are endless for dads, especially fathers who love sports. Just make sure you accompany your present with a great big hug.
Brother
Your brother teased you witless growing up but now he's really mellowed out and you consider him a brilliant friend. Gifts for Him should be exciting and adventurous. Drinking games are good because you can play them with him and some friends.
Meanwhile, experience days and other active gifts can make brilliant presents, especially if you have a camera to capture it all on film (or facebook.) You can get away with some jokey presents too, like a fruit basket to point out that he could do with a healthier diet or something related to a favourite TV show. Get him something irreverent which is related to something he loves, like footy, cars or sci-fi and he'll quit picking on you for at least 5 hours.
Boyfriend
Your boyfriend loves you and you love him. He's funny, handsome and great fun. Gifts for him need to show him how much you love and admire him. You don't need to go overboard here, just give him a token which shows him how much he means to you. Get him something which has been personalised or something that has romantic connotations for the two of you which he can keep forever and ever. As well as something meaningful you could get him something fun, or silly. Whatever you choose, be sure to sweeten the deal with a kiss.
Uncle
If you're buying gifts for your Uncle, he must be something really special because a lot of us just forget about our Uncles when we've grown up. Maybe he was a bit like your dad, another strong male figure who you could rely on to cheer you up or give you lifts home from the Cinema. Or maybe he's just a cool old chap who tells great jokes. Gifts for Him need to be related to his interests and useful, maybe even practical. If he is interested in gardening of golf you'll find a ton of great gifts online. In fact, whatever it is he loves there's sure to be something out there for him. Find something tasteful.
Friend
It doesn't matter if you're a guy or a girl; we've all got male friends who we love to bits. They are often interested in the same music and films as us and they can be supportive, insightful and a good laugh. If your friend has a birthday soon or Christmas is coming up, gifts for him don't have to be expensive. It's the same old adage; it's the thought that counts.
Remember: Men are Simple
Not like that, silly. They're not complicated, that's all. They have real, honest, direct feelings and they tend to be charming and candid. So you don't need to be fussy or elaborate or ask them a ton of complicated questions when you're trying to find the perfect present. Just use some common sense (like they always do!), be direct and be affectionate. Before you know it they'll be grinning from ear to ear and giving you a big hug. Because real men love great big hugs!
