The majority of people today accept that exercise and being healthy are of great importance if we want to live a long and potentially happier life. A large number of people are choosing to choose healthier food products and are trying to fit more exercise into their often busy schedules. Exercise is also said to help with psychological health, releasing ‘feel good’ chemicals and cheering us up!
Children and young people tend to learn a number of sports in schools and some decide they would like to develop their sports skills further. A number of colleges offer sports qualifications to those who are particularly enthusiastic about playing professionally or becoming teachers themselves. Others may need or prefer to look for other qualifications, or to find a job straight after school. This does not mean they cannot take their interest in sports any further; there are a number of clubs, gyms and organizations that can be joined.
Everyone has their own individual tastes in sport, either to watch or play (or both). Rugby is a challenging game that is enjoyed by an increasing number of players and spectators. If it is a sport that you or your child/children are interested in playing, the first thing you will need to do is find a reputable local club or group who should be able to teach you. It is important you do some research of your own into the sport so you can find out about rules, equipment and the history of the game. The person/people teaching you should be happy to start teaching you the basics, like with a lot of classes, try to find one that is not too full – you will want a group small enough for you to have individual help and encouragement if necessary. It can also mean that you are given more positive reinforcement by a coach who knows you.
In order to learn the game as well comfortably you will need to wear the right clothing. Shops and online stores sell a huge variety of brands that produce rugby shirts, shorts, boots and socks. The materials used for rugby apparel are usually selected for practicality as well as comfort. Rugby shirts are often made from manmade fabrics which help to wick moisture away from the skin and are less likely to absorb as much moisture from rain as cotton based fibres. These materials also serve the purpose of making rugby shirts more difficult to grasp during tackles.
There is, of course, another reason why rugby shirts are so important – they display your team’s colours and badge! Feeling like a valued member of a team is important to many human beings, and being involved in sports together can lead to a great bond between players. These friendships can go on and last much longer than a player’s rugby career. For the majority of people who wish to play rugby safely and by the rules, it is an overwhelmingly positive experience. It can boost confidence, provide great exercise and is a great outlet for excess energy and emotion. |
